Amazon Reaches $309M Returns Policy Settlement, Shares Rise
Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN) shares climbed more than 2.5% to $244.56 following news of a $309 million settlement over its returns and refund practices. The agreement resolves a class-action lawsuit alleging the company failed to properly reimburse customers for returned items.
The total relief package exceeds $1 billion, including $309.5 million in cash payments and over $363 million in non-monetary benefits. Amazon has already issued $570 million in refunds related to the claims, with an additional $34 million expected to complete the process.
While denying wrongdoing, Amazon acknowledged gaps in its processes. The settlement adds to the company's growing regulatory and legal expenses amid increasing scrutiny of its e-commerce practices.
